The Chong Laboratory:
Translational Research in Cardiac Regeneration

Our research combines basic science with clinical research to create stem cell and growth factor-based therapies for regenerating the injured heart. We are also interested in understanding development of cardiovascular diseases, developing bioengineering tools for disease modelling, investigating of the immune response after myocardial infarction, and exploring the development of cardiomyopathies.

You can find us at The Westmead Institute for Medical Research, where we make up the Centre for Heart Research together with the Cardiac Gene Therapy Laboratory. Our location at the heart of the Westmead hospital network allows us to collaborate closely with clinicians at Westmead’s Department of Cardiology, as well as University of Sydney’s Westmead Applied Research Centre, with whom we are closely affiliated.
